AFTERLIFE: Spring Summer 2013

On Friday September 14th, London designer Alexandra Groover unveils her eagerly-awaited eighth collection at St Giles In The Fields Church in Holborn, London.

This season sees the premier of AFTERLIFE, a surprise fourth installment in what was originally a trilogy of short films. Following BIRTH, LIFE, and DEATH, AFTERLIFE explores the possibility of an existence in the underworld. Featuring a second soundtrack collaboration with cult industrial musician Dave.i.d, AFTERLIFE focuses on surrealistic wanderings between the outside world and the gates that lead to the afterlife. The site-specific screening will also feature a special live AFTERLIFE set from musician Dave.i.d as well as an AFTERLIFE DJ set from Andrew Hartwell of Aurora Borealis Records.

As in DEATH, AFTERLIFE is embodied by artists and married couple Inesa and Barrington De La Roche – DARK THEATRE, who after their death, find themselves lost in what appears to be an uninhabited English marshland reminiscent of a Turner landscape. As they wander through fields of tall grassy reeds, gusts of wind whip around their spectral bodies, creating undulating movement in the sharp geometric lines of their solid black garments. When Barrington suddenly disappears, Inesa searches for him but is instead startled by the appearance of a silver cord that slowly beckons her toward the enigmatic gates of the AFTERLIFE. Once again, Groover’s collection of signature all-black garments invite the wearer to experiment, offering various configurations and silhouettes. AFTERLIFE also features Groover’s fourth collaboration with London multimedia artist Anna Iceland, who has designed the makeup for the film.

Groover will also present an additional short film made in collaboration with London photographer Wilbert Lati, created especially for Primitive London’s fashion week exhibit on the 13th of September.

After studying at Central St. Martins and RISD, and working in the studios of Alexander McQueen and Zandra Rhodes, Alexandra Groover launched her first collection for Autumn Winter 2009. With press from i-D, Dazed, Vogue.com, Harpers Bazaar and Grey, and collaborations with cult bands SunnO))), Dave.i.d and Bo Ningen, Groover has rapidly gained a strong following within the fashion, art and music industries.
