DEATH: Autumn Winter 2012

On Friday February 17th, London designer Alexandra Groover unveils her eagerly-awaited seventh collection at St Giles In The Fields Church in Holborn, London.

This season sees the premier of DEATH, the final installment in Groover’s trilogy of short films. Following BIRTH and LIFE, DEATH also explores the themes of emergence, separation, and togetherness in addition to withering and decay. With a soundtrack by cult musician Dave.i.d, DEATH focuses on the idea of a peaceful and meditative end. The site-specific screening will also include a special live DEATH set from musician Dave.i.d as well as a DEATH DJ set from Andrew Hartwell of Aurora Borealis Records.

DEATH is embodied by artists and married couple Inesa and Barrington De La Roche – DARK THEATRE, who are led into a dream-like, glowing underworld where they are welcomed by comforting helpers who assist them in preparing for their journey into eternity. As they are dressed in layers of clothing resembling shawl-like shrouds, wing-like extensions of fabric are wrapped around them, binding them into what will become a permanent embrace. Once again, Groover’s collection of signature all-black hoods and winged drawstring garments invite the wearer to experiment, offering various configurations as a protective binding and cocooning for the body. DEATH also features Groover’s third collaboration with London footwear designer Benjamin John Hall.
